Raider/ Marauder Recognition and Defense

The first thing you need to realize is these "people" are out there. People who will take everything you've worked for, everything you care about, everything that will keep you and your family alive, and likely terminate your entire family after indulging any other dark fantasies they may have. So you should really ask yourself one question before reading this article... How far are you willing to go to ENSURE your families safety?

If you answered with ANYTHING other than " All the way" or "Whatever I have to do" then turn the page and go back to your version of reality. If you are ready to take it as far as it needs to go, then read on.

Raiders are, in the simplest terms, people willing to kill or harm to take what they want or believe they need. There are all sorts of these Raiders you will likely encounter. You will have groups of friends who aren't very experienced and think they can "Raid" various locales. There will be gangs who have done this sort of thing before on a smaller scale and will probably have decent form and organization. There will be para-military, private military, and former military teams who will operate together and take what they want. You may also need to keep current military & law enforcement teams and rogue soldiers in mind as well... Don't just assume they're there to help you. And the final major Raider threat is the lone wolf or lone operator. Some of these one man units can be just as deadly, if not more deadly than a whole group.  This is not to say that you should view all outsiders as a threat, but you should never EVER let your guard down.

If you are having a hard time imaging a human becoming that evil, you should rent the movie "The Hills Have Eyes #1 and #2" ...granted they are just movies, but they can give you a small taste of how 'sick' a "human" can become. When you watch those flics, keep in mind someone wrote those movies, and directed them. If you still don't understand, look at a real world example like what happened to the Jews during WWII. Now after you've seen that evil, imagine there's no one standing between them and your family... Getting the picture yet?

To begin preparing for these sorts of threats, you need body armor, the best you can afford. Don't go making some cheap ass crap you saw online, BUY GOOD ARMOR like the AR500 armor from ar500.com. You need to figure out your limits, how much armor you can maneuver while wearing, and if you want to go with a covert armor setup or an overt armor setup. Covert can be great cause the enemy doesn't know you're armored and doesn't know to aim at the unprotected areas, but overt armor is good as well cause most of the time it is much much stronger and can usually withstand a good deal more punishment. Truly, the choice is all yours. Just make sure you up-armor. Get armor for your whole family, and whatever extra armor pieces you want for your head, shoulders, legs, or wherever. Too many vital zones to leave any unprotected.

Next you need high caliber weapons. Regardless of what armor you get, most will not stop a true BMG 50cal round. I'm sure you're saying: " but Dane, I've seen armor rated to that level." yes you have, but have you ever met anyone who's survived after being shot in the chest by a 50BMG while wearing that armor? Even if the bullet stops on the plate or in the vest, the kinetic energy imparted upon the wearer is so great that most or all of their ribs will be broken and some ribs may puncture vital organs. Either way, their out of the fight. You don't have to go as far as a 50BMG though, a 300 Win Mag is plenty of power to go right thru most current body armor. You can also look at rounds like .30-06, .338 Lapua, .408 Chey Tac, .416 Barrett, etc. the energy these calibers bring with them Downrange is a force to be reckoned with. You can bet ALOT of Raiders and Marauders will have armor, especially if they are any good at "raiding" various locales and groups. So you need to prepare above and beyond what they can/will do.

The next option to consider is early warning systems and man-trapping. Consider what the Spartans of long ago did, wear them down, hurt them in small ways, use your terrain, and make the enemy lose all taste for battle. Take another lesson from the Vietcong in Vietnam. Their battle techniques were largely based in Guerilla-Style Warfare Tactics. Booby traps, false attacks, snipers, ambushes, and a whole host of sabotage techniques.

The final factor is determination or the "will to survive/thrive". If you're not willing to go as far or farther than your enemy, then you may as well just hand over your shit. Mainly because WILL is the deciding factor in most survival situations. Some of you out there reading this have had 'near death experiences'... When you stared death in the face, did you give up and die, or did you find the strength to keep going? Your attackers will not share your compassion, they will not care about you or your family, and they will not feel any kind of remorse afterwards. Get all feelings of "Right & Wrong" out of your head now, before the situation ever presents itself. It's better that you go thru and eliminate those clouded feelings now... Simulate what you can to make your mind and body react like it would in that situation, and let your body process the emotions before you have to in person. this way you don't lock up and lose it in the middle of a battle, and your family knows that IF you can protect them, you WILL!!!
